Will my new cat always be sedentary?

by Anonymous

Just before Christmas, we adopted a two-year-old cat that had been in the cat pound for nearly a year. She originally came to the shelter with a litter of kittens.

She is a lovely natured cat. She eats well, uses her litter box perfectly, and has settled nicely into our home. She doesn't like being handled too much, which is fine.

My concern is she is very sedentary. She goes outside only if I am with her, and at the slightest noise, bolts back indoors. Will she become more independent or will this be her nature? Thank you.

It takes time

A cat that's been in a shelter for a long time can sometimes take a good while to get used to their new home and people. Keep working with her to get her confidence up.
