Why would a cat be obsessed with an injury on a human?

by Nikki
(Florida)

I recently lost my toenail in an injury, and my cat is insistent on biting, licking, smelling, and rubbing the injured toe. It's still an open wound and I don't want her to contribute to an infection (it also just hurts).

I have to keep her out of my room and stay in there most of the day because she won't leave my toe alone.

Why would a cat be so obsessed with a human injury, and how can I get her to stop so we can be in the same room again?

Thank you!

Cat fixated on my surgical knee injury
by: Anonymous

My cat is so fixated on my knee injury. She jumps on it which aggravates it because i've had knee surgery because I split my kneecap in two and in other places shattered it into pieces. She jumps on it and also rubs against it. Jumping on it is very painful. What is she doing? I have had cats that are more empathic and sympathetic in the past to injuries I have had.

Can you cover it?
by: Mike

Maybe she's trying to help you heal it as that is what cats do to their own wounds. Can you cover it with a bandage or wear some kind of slipper to protect it for now?
