Why is my cat not sitting down all of a sudden?

by Katie

I have a 7-year-old boy who was fine this morning. Sometime around midday after he had been let outside, he came back in and was acting strange and meowing and growling every time I touched him near his lower back and tail. This is not like him at all.

I tried to get a closer look at his tail, but he hissed and clawed at me so I decided to leave it for the vet.

I noticed later that he’ll try to sit down but it’s like something is stopping him and he has to stand upright again.

He’s walking normally enough, he just can’t sit. I’m bringing him to the vet tomorrow as it’s too late now, but does anyone have any idea what could be wrong with him? I’m so worried.

male cat problem sitting
by: James D

I had a male siamese who lived to see 21. Your cat may have gotten bit or stung by a bee, or maybe a thistle is stuck in him. Also have your vet check for crystals in his urine. This happens in male cats. Some vets will check his blood pressure. If your vet doesn't, get a vet that does. My cat had high blood pressure that affected his kidneys Hope I helped.

Thanks
by: Katie

Thanks Kurt, I brought him to the vet and it was an injury sustained from (the vet thinks) another cat. He had a very high temperature and had i of left it any longer his injury would have become infected, poor thing :( she gave him a painkiller and some tablets for me to give him he seems to be getting back to himself thank god

Injury?
by: Kurt (Admin)

I'm sorry to hear your cat is having problems. I've seen cats have trouble sitting when they have bowel problems, but since he was outside, I would suspect an injury of some kind. I would definitely get him to the vet as soon as possible for a diagnosis. I hope he recovers quickly.
