What can I do to improve my cat's health?

by Gay Nel

My cat has gone from being lively to moping around, eyes a little squinty, throwing up more often, and generally looking like he doesn’t feel good. I took him to the vet and all his blood work came back perfect. He’s 10 years old. What can I do?

Go back to basics
by: Kai Williams

If his bloodwork is normal and your vet has no suggestions, go back to basics. Here are some ideas:

1. Get a second opinion. Another vet may have insight your other vet does not. Some problems don't surface in bloodwork and require x-rays, urinalysis, and so on.

2. Some problems do not have a direct physical cause or link to illness. Is he getting enough playtime? Enough exercise? Enough attention?

3. Evaluate his diet and try different (possibly better) choices.

4. Did anything change in his life just before this started? If so, that may be the cause.

5. Maybe he's just bored. Change up his routine slightly and get him a cat tree, some hiding places, or a new toy.

Good luck!
