Uses litter box for defecation but will not use it to urinate in

This issue just started a few weeks ago. My female cat is old - somewhere between 12 - 15 years of age (she showed up at our house one morning and stayed).

She used to be a barn cat but last winter she came down with a really bad cold (almost pneumonia) so we brought her inside the house. She adapted immediately to the litter box. All of a sudden she is urinating on the carpet, clothes in laundry baskets to be washed etc. Any suggestions?

Medical problem?
by: Sally F.

That is often a sign of a medical problem, such as some sort of urinary tract disease. I would check with your vet on this.

If your vet declares her healthy, I would consider adding another litter box because some cats will suddenly decide that one box is for pooping, and the other for peeing.
