I'm sorry to hear about your cat. In my experience, cats mourn in different ways. Try to give him the space he needs, or the attention he needs during this time (it can go either way -- some cats get more clingy, others go it alone). Distractions can help. If he's in a small enough space with a litter box for long enough, he will likely start using it again. This may be the only way. I wish you luck!
