Should I get a second cat when moving?

by Anonymous

I have a cat who is 2 years old. The girl who I live with now has 3 cats. I am moving out and only taking my cat with me.

She’s not really close with any of the cats in the house now, but I’m thinking I should get another younger cat so she has one to be there with her. Especially because I work 40 hours a week so I don’t want her to feel alone during the day.

I’m moving into a one-bedroom apartment also so I didn’t know if that would be considered too small for 2 cats?

I would probably wait

I'm glad you're thinking about this in the way you are. First off, a move is a big change for a cat, so I would probably wait to see how she settles into the new place before getting another cat. The other thing, as you mentioned, is the space. A one-bedroom might be too small for 2 cats. Move her first, let her settle in, and then revisit the idea. That's what I would do.
