Peeing inside but pooping outside the litter box

My 17-year-old cat, Oz, will only pee in the very front of his litter box (where he enters), and will poop one little turd inside the box, but that's all! The rest of his pooping is anywhere outside the box. His litter box is large, but he's had no problem up until a few months ago. I clean the litter box at least once a day, sometimes more, so it's clean. Can anyone help, please?!

Cats sometimes change their litter box habits and as cats get older, they can develop some interesting quirks. Sometimes, a cat will begin to prefer one box for pee and one for poop. To find out whether this is true in your cat's case, you'll have to get a second box and let him try out the two boxes for a while.
