My Cat's Feline Leukemia Virus Symptoms

What can I do to alleviate my cat's Feline Leukemia virus symptoms and make him more comfortable?

My cat is in the last stages of Feline Leukemia (I believe) and I just want to make him as comfortable as possible. My dilemma is that I don't have the money necessary to take him to the vet for diagnosis. I have spent many hours researching his symptoms and feline sicknesses and am 99% sure that this is what ails him. How can I ease his suffering?

FeLV Has Many Symptoms
by: Kurt (Cat Lovers Only Admin)

I've never had a cat with FeLV, but I know the symptoms depend largely upon which secondary conditions a cat with FeLV has. So, a cat with secondary infections is treated with antibiotics, one with cancer is treated with anti-cancer treatments, and so on.

Each secondary disease comes with its own set of symptoms. Without a diagnosis of not only the FeLV itself, but also exactly which secondary diseases or conditions are present, I think it would be difficult to determine which treatments to administer.

Immune boosting treatments (such as interferon) would be given to keep up your cat's resistance and help prevent further disease. If your cat experiences pain, then some sort of anti-pain treatment would be used.

This page on feline leukemia treatments shows how complex it can be to treat his disease (although the information is a little old).

I wish I could offer more help, but a FeLV infected cat really needs a course of treatment laid out by a vet after testing. Perhaps others who have experienced this with their cats will chime in and tell us what worked for them.

I wish you much luck with him.
