Kibble in the water bowl?

Years ago, I had a neutered male cat, Bob. He was a great cat. Dog people often said he was more like a dog, and he lived to be 19 years old.

He had one peculiar behavior - not a problem, just kind of a head scratcher. Every morning, when I gave him his food and water, he would very deliberately take one kibble and put it in his water bowl.

Anyone else have a cat who does this? What was the idea, I wonder?

Yeah, I'm thinking maybe he just wanted to add a little flavor to his water. Cats do some funny things.

No, he didn't eat the kibble, just left it there. At one point, I thought it might be his way of checking to see how often I changed the water!

Did he ever eat the water bowl kibble, or did he just let it remain in the water?

Your cat must have been gifted. I can't imagine a cat doing that on purpose every time. I do find kibble in my cat's water sometimes, but not every day. Maybe my cat did put it there by dropping it from her mouth after eating some kibble, but the only thing I can think of as to why your cat did it is that he wanted to flavor his water! Maybe plain tap water tasted bad to him and he wanted to spice it up! Who knows. In any event, I bet he was a joy to have as a "child" cat.
