Is it possible to bring in our 10 year old outside kitty Zeke?

We had him from birth. His mother was feral but warmed up to us and just disappeared one day. Zeke mainly stays in the yard close to the house during the day, and has always slept at night in our storage garage outside with his bed, food and litter boxes.
Over the years, we've had several indoor kitties. Two were very territorial. That's why we didn't bring Zeke in.
Our indoor kitty now has kidney failure and we're wondering if it would be a good or bad idea to try bringing Zeke in the house after she's gone.
He will look in through the slider door to see what we're doing. If a door is left open, he'll poke his head in as if he'd love to come in.
In the evening when my husband goes out the door to put Zeke in his "house" for the night, Zeke is always sitting by the door waiting for him.
Our concern is, Zeke is kind of a "spaz." He will let us pick him up occasionally and his claws are out most of the time. He loves to rub against our legs and purr and get pets but that's about it.
I would appreciate any advice, if it's even a good idea to try bringing Zeke in the house, and if so the best way to go about it.
Thank You!
