How long do cats mourn after loss of sibling?

by Maria Lee

I was a cat mommie to triplets in July 2015. Tragically we had to put one of the triplets down last week 8/8/20. My question is does anyone know how long it takes for a cat to bounce back to their normal self from the loss of their brother? He is gone and wont be coming back. He was very sick unfortunately.

I do believe the other two do miss him. It breaks my heart. I can see they are looking for him and he's not there or coming back.

Just wondering if anyone went through this and how long it takes.

We want to adopt another kitten to fill our void but I also wonder how my other two will react to this as well.

Thanks for any help!

It can take some time

In my experience, it can be anywhere from a few weeks to a few months before they settle into the new routine without their sibling/house mate. It's hard to watch, but they get over it after a while.
