FLOCK-DMV (FOR THE LOVE OF CATS & KITTENS) SAVE THE KITTENS -DMV
by Connie
(Washington, DC (USA))
We are a new rescue for cats and kittens in the Washington, DC area, including Maryland and Virginia. We are an all-volunteer group of caregivers.
We all have been doing these activities for most of our lives. Our focus is on homeless cats, whether stray, feral, abandoned or abused/neglected.
We are overwhelmed of course, and work with other rescue groups, for advice and assistance. We provide services for cats in the low-income sections of the city where the need is greatest.
We also provide community education on cats and kitten health care, behavior and fostering/adoption. We are also a liaison between the animal control/shelters and the community.
We have a total of 23 cats, with several kittens, as we are in the midst of kitten season. Actually, kitten season seems to run year round for us to be honest.
We are always in need of donations, especially dry and canned foods, bottled water, towels and blankets, cages and carriers and of course funds.
We give and keep receipts although we do not have 501(c) (3) status. We just cannot afford to even begin the process, as all of our limited resources we provide from our own pockets to feed and for transport and grooming if necessary.
In Washington, DC we have the CatNipp program to help us out, but the residents of the community do not trust them, hence we act as a liaison between the two, as well as provide information and impromptu education, as we have a rapport with the neighborhood. A very urban area, we have seen 4 kitties run over by cars, so we are desperate to find loving homes to foster and/or adopt.
We keep all of our receipts should anyone want to see how we use our own funds to care for "our" cats. We also keep detailed records of our kitties.
Our email address is: flockdmv (AT) yahoo.com and we also have a Facebook Community Page with the name:
