Drooling cat has tongue sticking out

My cat has her tongue sticking out of her mouth with a mucus drool dripping out of her mouth. She just started this, and still acts fine other than this. I need help figuring out what is wrong with her.

I'm sorry to hear your cat is sick. Many cats stick their tongues out, but excessive drooling can indicate a health problem.

What kind of problem? It could be anything from an abscessed tooth to neurological problems to poisoning. If she were my cat, I would not take any chances. I'd call the vet and get some guidance.
