Cat Memorial: Mittens from Marysville

by Debbie Englebrecht
(Marysville, Ohio)

A "tuxedo cat," Mittens was beautiful. Obvious to his name, he had 6 toes on both front feet. "Thumbs" he was called at the humane society where we adopted him.

He was 10 years old and still loved to run the house at night. We lost him Sunday, August 21, 2011 very suddenly. I miss him so much.

He loved to have his back rubbed with our feet. He would sit up and beg like a dog. He was my foot warmer in the winter. He wanted to be anywhere I was and would follow me from room to room.

I love you Mittens. Please rest in peace. All the pains of this life are now over and you can play at the Bridge as much as you want. I will see you again, my beautiful baby boy.

I Understand

I am sorry to hear of your loss. We just lost our beloved tuxedo kitty, Mittens on Dec 20, 2011. She was 17 1/2 years old.
Mittens "Mitty" Morando
Maybe our two Mittens kitties are playing together at the Rainbow Bridge now.

Another One
by: Pamela

Yeah, Debbie I know what you mean about getting another kitty. I've thought about that too... that maybe it would help ease the sadness a little. However we already have an older cat (the neighbors moved away and left her!) and a little beagle dog as well (grandmother passed away and we "inherited her").

Even though we have the two, the house still feels empty and not the same without Zeena. She was always the one that I would have to continuously "stay after"... jumping on the kitchen counters and furniture, eating my plants, meowing continuously for treats, etc.

Now it seems like it's way too peaceful. Maybe someday the time will be right and Zeena will send us a fellow kitty to antagonize us!

I don't remember reading if you said you have any other pets. If you don't, maybe you should talk your husband into one. Although it wouldn't replace Mittens, it would certainly give you a diversion. Sounds like you have a lot of love to give and I'm sure Mittens would totally be OK with it!

Missing our loved ones
by: Debbie

Pamela,
Thanks so much for your reply. I am so sorry that you are missing Zeena too. It is so difficult, isn't it? I think about all the good times and the things he did that were so cute.

Sunday morning, I woke up to him jumping down from the bathroom sink (or I thought I did). Those are the hardest times now. I do OK most days.

My friend tells me that I should get another cat soon. That I have so much love to give to one. But right now it is still hard. My husband says no.
Take care of yourself.

Mittens and Zeena
by: Pamela

Debbie,

Oh my goodness... Mittens sounds so much like Zeena! She would run into the bathroom when she heard my husband taking a shower or getting ready to shave. She loved sitting on the sink waiting for him to turn on the faucet.

She would even jump up on the side of the tub while I took a bath and try to drink the water. Just thinking of those things make me happy and sad both at the same time.

It will be a month on Saturday and I can't say it has become even easier... maybe just less frequency of the "sad spells." Even this morning, I glanced in the kitchen and saw my gym bag in the floor and for a second thought it was Zeena waiting on her morning treat.

Thank you Debbie for your response back to my comment. I hope you are healing somewhat although I know you miss Mittens terribly!

Mittens from Marysville

Pamela,

I am sorry for your loss also. Yes, I cry everyday. He was always on the sink in the bathroom when I got out of the shower waiting for his drink from the faucet. I miss him so much.

Mittens and Zeena
by: Pamela

Hi Debbie,

Mittens was so very handsome with those beautiful eyes! I lost my precious little tuxedo kitty, Zeena, recently as well. Just like Mittens, it was sudden and she was only 9 years old. I still can't believe it. She was so rambunctious and full of energy and also quite the Diva! I feel your pain. It's been two weeks and I still cry everyday and see her everywhere. However, thinking about Rainbow Bridge seems to make it a little less painful. Maybe Zeena and Mittens are frolicking together there right now!

Rainbow Bridge
by: Marianne

I feel so sorry for your loss of Mittens, my heart goes out to you. I have been there and I can't say it gets any easier, but in time you will remember all the good times you enjoyed together. I hope that one day we will all meet up at "Rainbow Bridge." I have a long haired Siamese called Mr Slippers. He is my constant companion and I do love him so much. I send you best wishes from Portugal Marianne xx
