Cat has scabs from excessive scratching around his face. Is it the food?

My indoor Maine Coon mix is a picky eater. I've changed his dry and canned (especially canned) food multiple times with no reaction other than not eating it. I recently bought a bag of blue buffalo healthy weight. I've noticed him scratching like crazy sometimes to the point of scabs on his face.

Could it be the food? To my knowledge, he does not have fleas. The flea comb has flaky skin and dry scabs on it.

Try Wellness
by: Felicia

Hi Catmom. If Blue Buffalo seems to give your cat allergies, then a good alternative might be Wellness. Others to try: Royal Canin, Orijen. Good luck!

Food allergies

I have the same problem with my indoor cat. He eats Blue Buffalo dry every day. He is all scratched almost almost all his hair around his neck and is now pulling hair off his legs. If I stop Blue Buffalo what would be the next logical step in starting him on a new food. I’m referring to the brand. Thanks for any help!

Yes, it could be the food

Cats can have reactions to food. Some people I know have had bad luck with Blue Buffalo and food allergies in their cats.
