Cat bites when I play videos of kittens meowing?

Why does my cat bite me when I play videos of kittens meowing? I was thinking of adopting a kitten, and out of curiosity I tried playing a video of kittens meowing in front of my cat.

I did this before and he'd only search for the sound. Now, he attacks the hand that holds the device I play the video with.

This is probably a dumb question and it was most likely a really stupid thing to do and I regret stressing my cat now, but I still can't help wondering why he'd do this?

He's almost six and not castrated; I never had issues with him spraying and he doesn't go outside so I didn't think it was a priority, but he's getting spayed in two weeks.

Thanks for any answers! And I apologize for being a bad cat owner. :(

Update
by: Stéphanie

Hello!

I'm actually the original poster, and I figured since there was a new comment that I'd give an update. It's been what, three years now? I ended up adopting a kitten anyway, and my six year-old cat was terrified of him at first! I followed introductory guide (which did wonders for the two), and the first day I let the kitten roam freely, my older cat would run away literally screaming. It was quite a show hahaha, but now they're inseparable.

Thank you so much for the advice you gave me all those years ago!

cat sounds

My cat does this also and he loves other cats and kittens so I wouldn't be worried just introduce them properly and you're good.

Isolate the kitten
by: Kurt (Admin)

@Stéphanie,

It's impossible to know for certain how a cat will react to the presence of a new kitten. The safety switch is to first isolate the kitten in a room, with no physical contact with your resident cat. Then, follow the cat-to-cat introduction process outlined here.

You'll have to monitor things and make judgement calls about if and when it's safe to have them meet face-to-face.

Possible aggressiveness?
by: Stéphanie

I see! Is there a possibility then that he wouldn't be as aggressive with a kitten? I wouldn't want to risk bringing a kitten in if my cat really can't handle it.

He's possibly overstimulated
by: Kurt (Admin)

He's possibly overstimulated by the sounds, and he may be confused or frustrated by hearing the sounds but not seeing actual kittens nearby.
