Can a cat die from a sudden traumatic event such as an eviction?

My family's cat, Fraya died a couple of days ago, a week after we were evicted from our place with no notice. It was stressful for everyone involved.

The week leading up to her death, she had been refusing to eat or drink on her own and lost half her body weight and all of her body fat in only a couple of days.

After seemingly getting better, she suddenly died. My mom is a certified vet assistant and says this happens often but I haven't found anything online about it.

Cats can become very depressed and some seem to lose the will to live after trauma or a heavily stressful situation. This seems to happen a lot when they lose a long-time housemate, sibling, or human. One of my cats never recovered after her housemate passed away.
