6 week old kitten won't use litter box
by Pam

Our cat recently had 2 kittens, 1 female and 1 male. They are almost 6 weeks old... the female kitten won't use the litter box.
I have discovered that she has peed in my son's slipper and also in the kitten bed. What can I do?
I even tried a second litter box thinking she won't use the same litter as her brother. Please help.
My Thoughts:
More litter boxes are always a good idea, Pam, and it certainly can't hurt. Some kittens are a little slower to catch on, but it sounds like she's only having a problem with urination?
If she's only urinating outside the box, then I would have to wonder if she's got a urinary tract problem? If the vet has given her a clean bill of health, then the first thing I would try is to put her in the box after each meal.
I would recommend confinement retraining, but I'm guessing the kittens are not fully weaned? You might try modified confinement retraining, keeping all three cats in a small room.
Make sure to make it pleasant for them and visit with them often and provide lots of attention. Place her in the litter box after each meal and throughout the day.
I hope that helps. Please let us know how she makes out.
